New Year’s Goals

Posted General Ramblings

I have an ongoing list of goals that continually evolves as I do. As I check something off the list I re-evaluate it and see if I can set the goal higher. Learned to do a pull-up? Great. Now do five. Started running regularly? Now run a marathon. Continual growth and improvement. The list is never complete.

In the spirit of new year’s resolutions, though, I’m taking this opportunity to re-evaluate my list and add to it as I prepare to hit the road. After all, I’m embarking on a pretty unique situation of having nothing but free time. I plan to fill that with as much as I can.

Some are specific accomplishments, while others are general improvements to work towards. I may not achieve everything on this list in 2016, but that’s okay. I’m sure I’ll be adding to it over the next twelve months, too.

  1. Climb 5.10 consistently
  2. Climb a V6
  3. Get better at my footwork
  4. Get over the mental barrier and learn to lead trad
  5. Learn to sport climb
  6. Learn to crack climb
  7. Complete at least one real highball boulder problem, any grade
  8. Climb something, even just one pitch, on El Cap
  9. Practice yoga regularly
  10. Do 15 strict pull-ups, unbroken
  11. Hike at least 5 mountains over 14,000 feet
  12. Learn Spanish
  13. Learn a  new craft
  14. Write more (hopefully this blog will help)
  15. Figure out what I want to be when I grow up

I asked Mark if he had any goals for the new year and he said, “Crush everything.” Sounds about right.
